Political Ad Analytics & Data

In the last two weeks, there were 260 unique political ads that aired 39,632 times and we tracked $40.9M in political spending from 778 advertisers. That’s an almost $10M dollar increase in spending from the two weeks prior.

Each of the top ten advertisers from the last two weeks spent more than $1M. The three highest spending advertisers were American Action Network, John Cox for CA Governor, and End Citizens United/Let America vote Action Fund.

American Action Network spent $2.5M and currently has four ads on air. The group is targeting Democratic Representatives Cartwright (PA-08), Golden (ME-02), Luria (VA-02), and Pappas (NH-01) over what it calls “Pelosi’s dangerous drug plan” and prescription drug production in China. John Cox for CA Governor spent $1.9M and has three ads on air. The ads all compare Gavin Newsom, the “Beauty,” to Cox, the “Beast,” who wants to make big changes in Sacramento. Watch one of the ads here:

 

End Citizens United/Let America Vote Action Fund spent $1.8M and has 12 ads on air supporting the For the People Act. The ad with the most airings has run 844 times and is on air in West Virginia. Watch the ad here:

 

New York, NY was the top market in the last two weeks with $11.9M in spending. Washington, D.C. was the second highest market with $4.8M.

The spending in New York is largely driven by the NYC Mayoral Race. Total spending for the NYC mayoral race is currently $24M. The top advertiser in the race is New Start N.Y.C. that has spent $5.4M in support of Shaun Donovan.

In Virgina, Glenn Youngkin won the Republican convention, spending a total of $3.2M so far. As Democrats head towards their primary, Terry McAuliffe remains the top spender with $4.6M spent on the race so far. He has four ads on air currently.

In the last two weeks, 46 ads aired on TV that referenced the Coronavirus. These are the top two ads:
