There are a lot of people running for president this year. But have you heard of Matt Matern? Or Don Blankenship? What about Bill Kreml or Lincoln Chafee? Believe it or not, there are candidates running to be president who are so small they haven’t even made the New York Times’ official Presidential Candidate Tracker. We wanted to see what these candidates are spending, and the only identifying criteria are: a candidate must be in our system and must not in the aforementioned candidate tracker. Over the next few weeks, we’ll take a look at these candidates and how/where they’re spending their money.
Lincoln Chafee’s Advertising Campaign
Mr. Chafee is more of a known entity than the other candidates in this list. He has served as a two-term United States Senator as well as governor, in both cases for the great state of Rhode Island. He is, like Bill Kreml, seeking the presidency for the second time; he ran in the Democratic primary in 2016. So far all of his advertising has been on Google, focused on building name-id and bringing people to his website. Thus far, he has only spent $1500 on advertising, which is $1500 more than any other libertarian candidate. The nominating convention for the Libertarian party is going to be in late May and there will be multiple primaries across the country before that convention is held, so it’s probable we will see more spending from Mr. Chafee before the Libertarian candidate is chosen.
